The area
Model Town is one of the oldest planned neighbourhoods in Lahore, and it has kept a formality that newer societies never acquired. The houses are generous rather than showy, the gardens are mature, and the families hosting in them often have a very clear idea of how things are done.
Celebration style follows from that. Guest lists here tend toward the extended and the traditional; ceremonies are given their proper weight; and there is far less appetite for spectacle than for a room that feels correct.
The gardens are the real asset. Canopies that took decades to grow will out-perform anything we could build, provided the design is willing to be quieter than they are.
Our experience here
When our team works in Model Town, the first decision is usually what not to install. Lighting the trees rather than draping them, using a verandah as the natural stage, keeping the palette to ivory, brass and deep green so nothing competes with the brickwork.
The practical side is less romantic. Older lawns drain unevenly and the interior lanes are narrow, so ground levelling and a staged supplier order get more attention here than they would in a purpose-built venue.

Inspiration
The most successful Model Town evenings look as though the garden was simply lit and set for dinner. Long tables under the canopy, brass and glass instead of acrylic, and florals in the register of the existing planting rather than imported against it.
Trust
Largely because we are willing to do less. Families here have often seen a version of their garden over-decorated by someone determined to demonstrate value, and the relief when a planner suggests removing rather than adding is real.
There is also the matter of protocol. Separated seating, elders' comfort, the order in which a family is greeted — these are not afterthoughts in this neighbourhood, and we plan them as carefully as the floral schedule.
